Top 10 Back To School Must Haves

School is starting again. You need to look on par on your first day and need some inspiration. Here is a top 10 on must haves for your school wear:

Stylish backpack:

DSC02420Who wears a cool outfit matched to perfection and then carries a kids’ backpack or an old rucksack to school? That’s right, nobody does. What you have to make sure is that your backpack is practical and at the same time stylish.

Start with the colours. A safe choice would be to pick either black, navy blue, brown or a nice beige, sand colour. These will fit practically any outfit you have and often complement the colour of your shirt or jacket nicely.
Design is also important. Many people opt for the unicoloured backpack with a simple zip opening at the top and maybe an additional one going horizontal on the backpack. Personally I am in love with Herschel Little America backpack and I have used it for a while now. It’s timeless and iconic and uses two simple but discreet magnets to close the flap. Most importantly it’s durable and can hold a 15” computer in the protective pocket.

Cool Computer Sleeve:

DSC02410A case for your computer is a cool addition when you walk through campus. You will automatically make a statement when you have it in hand. There are so many really nice computer sleeves out in the market, but they tend to be priced way over reason. I often see really cool sleeves that cost more than a regular backpack!
But wait! I got you covered here. If you don’t want to splash the cash on these cool sleeves, why not make one yourself? I have a simple and easy tutorial on how to make a sleek and stylish cover yourself, check it out!

Nice pair of chinos:

IMG_0025A pair of chinos will give you the possibility to balance between fine and casual. While khakis will be the right choice if you prefer a permanently casual look, the chinos will bridge the gap to a more sharp look that will be suitable for school. My favourite colour is still the navy blue and khaki, but they come in a variety of colours now, so this is purely down to your personal choice.
Try them with a button down shirt and a pair of white sneakers or maybe espadrilles if the weather allows for it. If you want you can roll up chinos, it can really up the look.

Flannel shirt or woodsman shirt:

IMG_0026This one will do you very good on a cold autumn day. The relaxed and super soft material makes it really comfortable to wear even for longer periods of time. Don’t mistake this with a plaid shirt! A flannel shirt is make of cotton which gives it the soft feel. This is usually not the case with plaid shirts, even though they both often feature the same traditional red and black checkered pattern.
The flannel shirt can be worn with your chinos or even better: put on a pair of denim jeans and rock the Woodsman look (No need for a big muscular body and a giant beard!)

Nice pair of sneakerS:

IMG_0027The most common colour of sneakers right now is clearly the all white. This trend has been increasing over the past few years and doesn’t seem to end. There are good reasons for the popularity. They fit everything and I mean literally everything you have in your closet.
But they are impractical and incredibly mainstream, so I would suggest trying to find other color variants like a light grey, leather brown or black shoes. Multicoloured shoes are also good for some outfits, you just have to take your time to get it right.

Headphones:

DSC02417This one is an essential for everyone who loves listening to music and who doesn’t? For many people, including me, they allow me to immerse myself in my work or let me relax if I have no duties to do. Headphones come in very many different types: wired, bluetooth, in-ear, on-ear, and over-ear. Some people like the regular headphones that come with your iPhone or Android phone. But many prefer better audio quality and better looks with their headphones. But if you want a great design along with audio, they are often very pricey though that isn’t always the case.
Personally I rock the Pioneer MJ561BT that are bluetooth-only, which I like. First of all they sound great. Deep and powerful bass, high and clear mids and decent highs as well. Second of all they look really sleek! The design is so simple and premium that 5 or 10 different brands have used the same design. And the final selling point is the price! This pair cost me less that $80 which is half of what the usual cheap bluetooth headphones cost. I can definitely recommend them!

Bomber Jacket:

IMG_0035Admit it. Every guy that slips on a bomber jacket with a cool outfit gets to look a bit cooler. The military design and simplicity is a really good addition to a basic t-shirt and jeans outfit. Make sure the fit is right for you though. Bomber jackets tend to look a bit bloated and bulky especially in older versions. But nowadays you can get bomber jackets that is slim throughout to fit your body shape. Make sure it isn’t too snug, you can have problems with having a long sleeves shirt underneath which is bummer. Remember comfort is key.
They are really basic in looks and don’t come in many different varieties. What you can look for is reversible jackets, the amount of zippers (does it have pockets on the sleeves etc), and if it features a zipper or buttons to close the jacket.

Sunglasses:

DSC02418If you live anywhere the sun shines, you will have to have a pair of sunglasses. Not only for the looks but also to protect your eyes. Then why not choose a really cool pair? The ever expanding market for sunglasses is huge already, so try and decide on a design that fits your face and then find the right pair from there. Our face and head shapes differ a lot from person to person, which means sunglasses that fits another person might not suit you.
I have always liked the Ray Ban Aviators, their rounded shape is a good contrast to my face shape. Otherwise I use the Wayfarer-model mostly when I go to the beach or social events.

Simple Sweater:

IMG_0009Autumn comes by. The temperature is not near the scorching summer heat, so you have to keep warm. Put on a grey or dark blue sweater to accompany any pair of jeans you have. Make sure it compliments your backpack as well for a really sharp look. Keep it simple though. Avoid big logos on the front.

Button down shirt:

IMG_0011Need I say why? You have the chinos, you have the bomber jacket. Underneath that jacket you can put a button down, light in colour, and you have an amazing outfit. Get an Oxford shirt or maybe even a mandarin (grandpa collar) shirt that fits your body type.
These 10 things will have you looking sharp on your first school day and in many months to come. If you still don’t have the essentials, make sure to check my list of Top 6 Essentials you need. Otherwise you can get some inspiration from my Outfit gallery by clicking here.
